Delphinium, also known as larkspur, can come in annual, biennial, or perennial varieties. I love this tall colorful plant in the mixed perennial border. The main flowering stem is covered in many flowers. Each individual flower has five petals which grow together forming a hollow flower with a spur, thus the name "larkspur".It should be noted that delphinium is poisonous, and can cause severe illness or even death if consumed.
