Comfrey

Comfrey is an old medicinal plant used in the past for it's healing properties. It should never be taken internally as it contains minute quantities of toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. I grow it in my garden for it's attractive purple flowers, and cut it back throughout the season for rebloom.

Hi chey, I love comfrey too. I only have the pink variety here. Nobody seems to carry any other varieties.

I've read that it's great for your compost heap so that's where I put it when I cut it back.

Isn't that interesting. I've never seen the pink variety, only the purple. I'll have to keep an eye out.

I've heard that also, that it's great for the compost heap, and that's exactly where mine goes when it gets cut back:). Thanks Melanie!

Goodness that's pretty! I might have to try this one! Do you grow it from seed?

I dug mine from my mom's vegetable garden:). I'm not sure if it easily grows from seed, but the plant is easily divided. It does tend to get leggy mid season, and gets chopped back , only to bloom again that summer.

I love comfry, too. Unfortunaly the snails love it,too. I have never tried making a poultice as a topical application to bruises, but i hear it is a remedy. It certaily is easily divided as you mentioned. I have mine near the veg. plot, too!

Hi Phillip, thanks for your comment! I haven't used it for it's medicinal benefits either. I just enjoy it's pretty blooms when they're in season. Cheers!
